JOCELYN (JO) SLATER
Jocelyn (Jo) Slater comes from a swimming and diving family. She dove age groups with Kuni Schultz and continued to train with Bay Area Stars in high school while competing in swimming and diving for Alvin High School. After high school, she moved to San Jose California to dive for San Jose State University under Brian Tanner. While living more than 1,700 miles from the nearest relative, it is here where she grew to appreciate her diving family the most. She competed both springboard and tower events in the Western Athletic Conference, and set a school record for the 1-meter event. While there, she also coached diving lessons for Stanford Dive Club in Palo Alto.
After spending two years at San Jose State University, she transferred to Texas A&M University where she dove springboard under Jay Lerew and studied Telecommunication Media Studies. While at Texas A&M, she was able to train with some of the best divers in the world. After red-shirting her first year to deal with knee injuries, she went on to compete both springboard events for Texas A&M and helped A&M win two Big XII conference championships.
After graduation and collegiate diving, Jo went on to attend law school in Houston. She is now a practicing attorney in the Pearland area and lives in Missouri City. She is excited to re-join the sport of diving as much as her schedule allows, and is very thankful that Bay Area Stars is still a thriving program in the Houston area.
